New Employees

Elizabeth's Voice was donated money from Church at the Crossing in Aledo, TX in honor of Mother's Day and Father's Day this past summer. The money came at the perfect time because we were praying about how to hire new women in Evelyn's home village. Evelyn is the Ugandan director of Elizabeth's Voice.  Evelyn's story involves her running away from her home village to Kampala due to an abusive marriage. She learned hand crafts to be able to feed her two small children. She became profitable and decided to hire women that were in her situation. Long story, short we met Evelyn and Elizabeth's Voice was formed!

Since running away from her village, Evelyn had not returned. It had been 17 years. She had no desire to return because of her trauma in the past, but God had a different plan for her. Evelyn wanted to help people from her home village that had been in situations like hers. With the money donated, Evelyn bought three sewing machines and set out to return to her village for the first time in 17 years. She arrived and immediately located the village elders. She sat down and discussed with them the vision to hire some women in the village. She asked "Who are the most in need, the most vulnerable?" He named them and they were hired.

That is how we hired our new employees.

There was no interview needed. There was no qualification list to review. They are in need and we are able to provide. We did not give Evelyn any direction about who to hire. We just empowered her and stepped aside. She hired an amazing group of women and the greeting we received in Muskire village when we met them for the first time is something we will never forget.

We had a feast on the first night. We dance. We sang. We prayed. This was the first time for all of the village women to meet the women from Kampala. The next day we had church under a tree. It was so simple, so holy. We gave testimonies and prayed. The holy spirit was there.

After church, we feasted again! They had several huge pots and it felt like we fed the entire village.

After lunch, the women gathered together under a tree and the Kampala women began to teach the new employees how to make different styles of jewelry.

It was a beautiful moment. All the women gathered under a tree. Each one has a story, a past that is getting rewritten by job creation and dignity. They understand each other because each of them has been there. They were learning jewelry making, but truly healing was taking place.
